Positano: an unforgettable resort with picturesque landscapes
On the colorful Amalfi coast of sunny Italy lies the spectacular Positano town, washed by the warm waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea. It is not as crowned with glory as the rest of the country's resorts, but having been here once, every traveler keeps this delightful place in his heart forever.
An indispensable assistant for tourists in Italy is the online car booking service. At Turin airport, the average cost of renting a compact car will be around 18 euros per day, and at Bari airport it will be 16 euros per day.
There is a romantic belief about the appearance of the city, according to which, the god of the seas, Poseidon, having fallen in love with the beautiful Pazithea, built such a magical place for her. It is also mentioned in the legendary "Odyssey" by Homer, as a mysterious land, saturated with the sweet singing of mermaids.
The history of the founding of Positano goes far into the past - in the 1st century AD. Then the rulers of the Roman Empire and wealthy merchants chose the resort with such a favorable climate and picturesque landscapes. After the collapse of the empire, the city experienced an unprecedented rise - shipbuilding was successfully developing, trade relations were strengthening, and the local pride was the issue of its own coin.
Temporary difficulties befell the town in the Middle Ages, but already in the XIII century a new round of prosperity began. The territories were enriched with the buildings of exquisite castles and manors, made in a unique baroque style. The end of the First World War served as an auspicious occasion when, after years of devastation and decline, Europeans arrived to recuperate and forget themselves in the company of charming landscapes shrouded in serenity.
Erected in the 13th century, the graceful church of Santa Maria Assunta marks the town, towering over the expanses of water. It shines with its enchanting dome, standing out from the rest of the buildings. But, in addition to the external decoration, a true treasure is kept inside - the ancient icon of the Black Madonna, which, according to some legends, came ashore from the depths of the sea. She protects and benefits the locals.
Positano is famous for its incendiary music and dance festivals. Every year on August 15, on the Day of the Assumption of the Virgin, the townspeople gather for grandiose performances. Fantastic carnivals and stunning duels of ancient warriors delight anyone, and the festivities end with outstanding fireworks.
Satisfied tourists constantly scurry along the ornate streets in the city center, feeling the unsurpassed spirit with which the entire resort is saturated. Creative individuals come here for new ideas and inspiration that are not long in coming, especially in the incredible palette of the sunset, when the fiery sun disappears behind the rocky cliffs, spilling orange colors across the sky. Wonderful beaches with the finest sand, framing the turquoise Tyrrhenian waters, complete the look.
Even watching the colorful expanses from afar, from the deck of a ship passing by, city views excite the blood. The motley roofs of modest houses, piled up on a steep slope, hide in the dense branches of emerald plants, descending to the relief banks, on which captivating waves break. These incomparable pictures touch the most sensitive strings of the soul.
